What would you like to do that seems almost impossible to you to achieve?.... Or what would you like to have that you cannot afford at present?
ACT IT TO ATTRACT IT. Don’t just pretend – take action! Find people in your life or in the media who are, do or have what you aspire to. Study them and see how they achieved it. Copy their actions and habits. But take note of the mistakes they made, the obstacles they encountered, the time it took them to get there and how often along the way they fell and got up again to become winners. Look at the Paralympic medallists who achieve despite their handicap. We all have this kind of greatness in us, so why are we struggling and why do we give up before we get there? – Because we all make different choices in life and don’t always develop the skills and perseverance of those who go on to win. And that is ok. Ours would be a boring planet if we were all gold medallists. Contrast and variety are part of life and we all have our role to play.
Aaah, here is a key word: play.
Sometimes life seems like a game to me. It can be a serious game or a light hearted one. When you take it too seriously, it can become cut-throat and exhausting, and you might beat yourself up every time you ‘fail’ or are resentful of the one who did win. These are feelings which can block you from success.
A light hearted game has lots of laughs in it, the rules can be flexible and you simply try again every time you lose, without making the going hard and miserable. It’s much more enjoyable and you are much more likely to win now and then. In fact, winning becomes secondary to playing the game.
Let me give you an example:
Say, I admire the gymnasts for their flexibility and would like to be a bit like that but am totally out of shape. I would start doing yoga, stretch my muscles in a regular programme and persevere until I see or feel a difference. Every time I train I would think: ‘now, what would it feel like if I could do it easily and my body was supple already? Really feeling this thought in my body would make my exercising much easier and even more enjoyable. I would achieve my goal much quicker. So there you are, in a nutshell: feel as if you have already succeeded, act as if you already have what you desire and persevere, and you will attract it into your life.
A word of warning: focusing on money does not work. If you spend as if you already possessed loads of money, you will probably run up a massive credit card bill and create a block to more money flowing in. BUT if you focus on the ACTIONS that could get you in more money (say, if you started thinking and feeling like Richard Branson – though I think he is a very colourful character and not easy to copy – you can find your own) then it may
start flowing in much more easily.
So, act and keep going and you could be an
Olympic medallist, too!
