Do you sometimes get caught up in the nitty-gritty of everyday life – with so many jobs to do that you don’t know where to start? And do you find that a lot of these jobs are equally important?
Well, I do! At times I find it impossible to give priority to one job or another – they all seem to blend seemlessly into each other and then everything gets ‘on top of me’. But…. having been in this situation quite often, I have come across a solution that helps to unravel this massive ‘knot’.
When you feel overwhelmed and don’t know what to do first – look after yourself. Make sure you get enough sleep, exercise and time out. Yes, I know it is not easy to think of yourself when everything and everybody else is screaming for attention. But experience has shown me that, when your mind is cluttered and in turmoil, when you don’t get a break till you go to sleep (and even sleep does not feel restful), when your stomach (solar plexus) feels as if it is in a constant knot, when you never have time for the things you want to do …. It is time to turn within, time to take ‘time out’, sit still, meditate, time to do some calming exercise (yoga works for me!), time to find out what really matters to you …. And let go of the rest – LET IT GO!
Once you have sorted out your priorities, other jobs that get in the way of ordered life can be delegated, get done quickly and easily or just disappear….
Never underestimate the importance of time you give to yourself.
Yes, I know, many of us have been brought up not to be selfish, but unless we put something back into our energy bank …. replenish our energy by giving time and love to ourselves, we can end up making ourselves mentally and thereby physically ill. Mind over matter, as they say (a big subject that will have to wait for another newsletter).
I encourage you to be selfish, give yourself some time and see the boulder of tasks, chores and jobs transform into a gentle shower of snow – some of it will have to be cleared off your path, some will melt away and some of it you might even enjoy to play around with.
Right, I think I better attend to the snow on my path now….
